Please Take a Moment to Read

If you haven’t already today, take a moment to reflect on what it means to be a Veteran. Right now you’re sitting at home reading this on your computer, or maybe your phone, or ipad, or maybe you’re even on an airplane. You are not in a foreign land, away from your friends and family, surrounded by strangers. Strangers who may or may not want you dead. You are not on a naval ship hundreds of miles out to sea, patrolling and protecting our waters. You aren’t in a hospital, waiting for the surgeon to come remove what’s left of your shrapnel shredded leg. You aren’t at the funeral for your best friend who you watched die by your side.

That doesn’t make you any less of an American; it just means you’ve never been through what our soldiers have been through. I haven’t either. I can only imagine what it’s like. I can only wonder if I’d have what it takes to make it home alive. One thing that I am sure of is that these men and women are deserving of my respect and thanks, and they are deserving of yours too, no matter what your political stance is. So think about all this, and the next veteran you see, shake their hand and tell them “Thank You”.
